Holloway slams Bluebirds over Phillips pursuit

Blackpool manager Ian Holloway has branded Cardiff "slightly outrageous" in their pursuit of winger Matt Phillips.

The Bluebirds had a bid, reported to be worth £800,000, rejected for the Tangerines star during the January transfer window and Holloway stressed he would not be letting his prized asset go to a fellow npower Championship club.

Phillips showed Cardiff exactly why they are interested in recruiting him by grabbing two goals in Blackpool's 3-1 win at the Cardiff City Stadium on Saturday, leaving Holloway to reflect on the Welsh club's bravado in the transfer market.

He told the BBC: "I think they (Cardiff) were a little bit ambitious there, if he goes anywhere it will be one of the top five clubs in the country.

"He won't have to wait for Cardiff to become that, so slightly ambitious, slightly outrageous.

"But never mind, it proves they are right doesn't it, what he's done today (Saturday). He's a good lad, he's a good player and shows what he can do. We've got to get everything right around for him to shine."
