Valentino Rossi has undergone surgery to remove the metal rod that was placed in his right tibia when he broke his leg in 2010.
The Mugello practice crash nearly two years ago forced Rossi to miss several races, ending his 2010 title bid. The rod has remained in his leg since then.
Today's operation at Cattolica's Cervesi hospital was a complete success, and Rossi will be fully fit for the next MotoGP test at Sepang from 28 February to 1 March.
His Ducati team-mate Nicky Hayden was also having surgery today to attend to shoulder damage sustained in a training accident just after Christmas.

@Callum,
Rossi is a true champion and proven developer, he does not a need secondary school guy like you to criticize him.
hi bloggers
first thing hope rossi gets fully race fit
he is the daddy of the race tract but can he keep up with the young blood
it's hard to just walk away from millonsof pounds in sponcer money
that crash would have put 99%of road bikers off riding again
this year he to prove that he can mixed it up with the young blood i would hate him to turn into a f1 shoo macka
M , always an excuse for rossi! And he inherited a bike that was winning races at the end of previous year , would have thought rossi could have won on it? Or did his average development skills mess up the bike that bad?
@ callum_mansell,
lol, maybe you never watched 2006 and 2007 and just heard some rubbish while having deer at your local pub !! He was unlucky in both 2006 and 2007, he got knocked out, got worst rubber. He at lead had balls to jump off of the best bike and try the slowest bike. in 2010 got injured and 2011 inherited a lame bike that designed around stoner.You're just fooling yourself if you think Rossi is finished. Just watch it !!
M , rossi lost the championship because he couldnt handle the presure , if you actually watched the race at valencia in 2006! You will know what im talking about , that year hayden was consistant whereas rossi wasnt , he lost fair and square , do you think he was unlucky in 2007 and 2011?
@Callum,
Maybe Glyn is right when he said you didn't watch races. I doubt if you have watch any of 2006-2007 season. lol Rossi got beaten fair and square in 2006??? lol lol lol . Rossi won more races in 2006 than Hayden?? Then how come he was beaten fair and square??? You don't have no clue about what you're saying, you just say something... lol go to school kid !!
Glyn689 , i said IF the bikes were all the same stoner still would have won , yes rossi was faster but everybody else also went faster than last years times so that shows that , stoner if he was on the duc last year would have gone faster than rossi as his times would have improved from the previous years , and plus track conditions were different
@ callum which bit do you not understand if mr rossi was faster on the duke how does that make him slower and are you saying the honda had no advantage because if you are you obviously didn't watch the racing last season
Glyn689 , if stoner was on ducati last year he would have won at least 3 races , stoner would have beaten rossi at every race if they were both on ducati because stoner is now simply just a faster rider! I find it amusing that valentinees always seem say its the bike when stoner wins and say he was lucky and when its rossi wins its his skill? Stoner would have won last year if everybody had same bike anyway , rossi has always had advantage with his bikes until now and what happens? He only just about beat his teamate!
@ callum again you don't seem to understand you say mr rossi could not ride the duke like mr stoner could, so how come mr rossi on the duke was faster than mr stoner on the duke at some circuits if he's finished as i tried to explain to you the honda was the big difference last season mr pedrossa and dovizioso only finished where they did because the honda was that good put several other riders on that bike and mr stoner back on last seasons duke and guess what mr stoner would not have been no1
@M , why do you always use excuses for rossi? "he was unlucky" maybe he just beaten fair and square ehh , ever thought about that? And rossi isnt god ok? He is beatable and that has already been proven , stoner may not win 6 in a row but he will win alot of championships , his only real competition is lorenzo , at least at monent!
@glyn689 , like i said rossi isnt god! Rossi's mind games wont work on stoner anymore because stoner knows rossi is no longer a threat! His winning time is done im afraid , and stoner can win on any bike , because he has the balls to push the bike to the limit!
@ callum please uderstand what is written stoner may have won on the duke but he wouldn't have last year the hondas were just to strong thats how come mr rossi althouth being FASTER at some tracks than mr stoner was on the duke didn't make a dent on the hondas no one would have beaten mr stoner on that honda apart from mr rossi who if didn't have the outright pace would have annihilated him mentally and perhaps forced him into another bout of lactose intollerance
@callum,
You failed again, not even loads of plausible mumble jumble can help you. You actually think Stoner will win 6 titles in a row??? lol you can just dream about it. The only rider capable of doing that is Rossi, and he could've done it if wast unlucky.
I hope Rossi Has a sppedy recovery
@glyn689 , ducati were winning with stoner???? Not to mention hayden was doing a fantastic job on that bike in 2010! And yes rossi may be faster on some tracks , doesnt matter this year stoner was faster than everyone at basically every track! There is nothing wrong with the bike its just rossi wont ride it like stoner which seems to be the only way to make it work! STONER FOR 2012!
@ callum you are right but now you'll like this mr stoner had 3 seasons in 125 & 250 no titles and on factory ktm and aprilia 2 seasons on honda only 1 title plus this is the bit you'll really like when mr rossi took over the duke it had been developed by mr stoner for 3 seasons and was a donkey to say the least although mr rossi on some tracks on said duke was actally faster than mr stoner was, check times yourself plus this was the season of NO ABSOLUTELY NO TESTING to sort out the machine that was inherited not unlike mr stoner who won both of his 2 titles on machinery developed by riders who knew how to set up a bike do you like this little insight curious to read your answer
Sparra1967 , stoner hardly crashed in 2011! Unlike rossi who crashed in basically race in the last few rounds and also crashed at least 2 times at every track! Rossi has more trophys but he is 6 years older than stoner and 6 years more racing for stoner could = 6 more WDC , not to mention stoner has been on ducati for 4 years of his motogp carear which i think we all know is probably the most difficult bike to ride! Rossi has always had advantage with his bike until now and look what happens , he looses.
Mansel - Stoners daughter was on the same day as Valentino - do you think he i=will get an invite to their birthday parties - he could bring all his trophies to put the wind up Casey............
