PFA chief explains Marples fuss

Thu 06 Mar, 07:45 PM

Deputy chief executive of the PFA Mick McGuire has clarified the confusion surrounding Simon Marples' future at Chester.Marples was involved in a dispute with caretaker boss Simon Davies after being named as a substitute for the Blues' midweek trip to Doncaster.

Reports on Thursday suggested the 32-year-old defender, whose contract expires in the summer, had been placed on "garden leave" as a result of the bust-up, prompting McGuire to explain the current situation.

"It was not an agreement between the club, the PFA and the player as stated on the website," he said.

"The club offered the player the opportunity not to turn in to training. The PFA advised and made it clear that if he accepted their offer, his contract must be protected.

"The player decided to accept it because it seemed he had no part to play in the club's future plans. The PFA will now oversee that his contract is honoured."
