Terry Hopes To Avoid English Sides

Thu 06 Mar, 09:09 AM

John Terry admits that he would prefer not to be paired against an English club in the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

After helping Chelsea to brush aside Olympiakos in the last 16 on Wednesday night, the Blues' captain knows that a tie against Manchester United, Liverpool or Arsenal is now a realistic possibility.

However, while hoping to avoid a familiar foe, Terry insists that whoever they are drawn against in the last eight should expect a tough test against Avram Grant's in form side.

"After getting this far you don't really want to get drawn against a Liverpool or a Manchester United or an Arsenal, so hopefully we an avoid them," he told Sky Sports.

"But if we get them, to go all the way you have to beat the best sides, so even though it won't be nice we have to beat them."

While Terry has his sights set on potential European opponents, Joe Cole is refusing to look any further ahead than a potentially tricky FA Cup tie with Barnsley on Saturday.

"It was a good strong performance (against Olympiakos)," he said.

"The last two games we've been very strong and now we've just got to focus on our next game and just try to keep going. It's always about the next game.

"In this sport you really have to play well, perform in every game and be consistent, so now we just focus our sights on Barnsley.

"We're not getting too excited and will try and win that game."
