Andy Murray is hoping that his fine recent record against world number five Nikolay Davydenko will hold up when he faces the Russian in the Dubai quarter-finals.

Murray, who struggled past Fernando Verdasco in the second round on Wednesday, has won all three of his previous meetings with Davydenko including an imposing 6-4 6-3 victory on his way to the Doha title two months ago.

But the 20-year-old Scot has lost to the Russian twice before, at the 2006 Indian Wells Masters and US Open, and is not taking the fifth seed for granted.

"Davydenko will be a tough match. He has been in the top 10 in the world for the past couple of years or so it's going to be a difficult match," Murray told Eurosport.

"He makes a lot of balls and is unbelievably fast around the court but I have a good record against him the last few times we've played so hopefully I can come out on top again."

The Russian has not taken a set off of Murray in their three meetings since the US Open defeat, including matches last year in Doha and Indian Wells.

In his Dubai debut Murray followed up his masterful first-round win over holder Roger Federer with a mediocre performance against Verdasco, but the world number 11 said it was still encouraging to be able to grind out victory against the Spaniard.

"I was pretty calm today but I was struggling to find the right shots and mishitting a lot of balls but I was just glad to get through by the end," he said after the win.

"Hopefully I can start to win these kinds of matches a bit more comfortably."
