Former Ireland international Liam Brady has revealed that he will be given a role in the management set-up alongside new Ireland coach Giovanni Trapattoni.

The 52-year-old is currently employed as a youth coach by former club Arsenal, but says he has received their approval to sign a contract with the FAI.

"It's looking very positive now," he said on RTE's Champions League highlights programme. "I've spoken to the board and to Arsene Wenger and they're happy for me to do it and keep my job at Arsenal.

"I've been to Austria and had a very good meeting with Mr Trapattoni. Hopefully, I'll be speaking with the FAI very soon."

Brady said that his role would involve assisting Trapattoni (pictured) - who coached Brady during his time at Juventus - alongside former Juve team-mate Marco Tardelli, who has been named as Trapattoni's assistant.

"It's funny the way it's all worked out," he laughed. "But I'll be there to help him in everything that he does.

"I'll be working with him as he gets to know the players and helping him as the games come around.

"I'll be going down to Portugal with him - I'll be there for the whole trip and we [Brady and Tardelli] will be there for him to bounce ideas off.

"We're people he can ask questions of, we won't just be carrying the balls about at training."

Brady revealed that his role would also involve watching games in the London area, and paying particular attention to young Irish players plying their trade in the Championship, League One and League Two.

He confirmed that he would be looking at young players who had not yet made their international allegiances clear, as well as approaching older players who have retired in recent years, in the hope of tempting them back into the international fold.

"We'll be approaching a few of them, the likes of Andy O'Brien and Steve Finnan," he said.

Tardelli is expected to begin scouting duties this weekend, while Trapattoni will assume his position when his contract with current club Red Bull Salzburg expires at the end of the Austrian season in May.

Ireland's players will attend a week-long training camp in Portugal in May, at which time Brady will experience his first involvement with the squad.
