PSV maintain march to the title

Sun 06 Apr, 05:15 PM

PSV Eindhoven maintained their march towards a fourth Eredivisie crown in succession with a solid 2-0 win at home to Heracles Almelo on Sunday.Timmy Simons (12) and Jefferson Farfan (80) scored the goals which leave Sef Vergoossen's troops on the brink of the title with just two games remaining.

PSV remain five points clear of Ajax, who were 4-1 winners at home to De Graafschap, and can wrap up the title with a win at fourth-placed FC Twente next weekend.

Ajax's thumping win at the Amsterdam ArenA on Sunday ensured PSV will have to keep the champagne on ice for at least another week, and Adrie Koster's troops will still be dreaming of the title after boosting their goal difference against De Graafschap.

Klass-Jan Huntelaar was the hero for Ajax, the forward bagging a first-half hat-trick to set their hosts on their way to an 11th home win of the season.

Niklas Tarvajarvi pulled one back for the visitors after 32 minutes to make it 2-1 before Huntelaar completed his treble and Kenneth Perez added a fourth in the second half.

NAC Breda bolstered their bid to secure a Champions League play-off berth with a fine 2-1 win at FC Groningen - a result which all but ended the hosts' slender chances of securing a spot in Europe's premier club competition.

Ahmed Ammi gave NAC the lead on 18 minutes before Matthew Amoah doubled the visitors' advantage shortly before half-time.

Goran Lovre grabbed one back for Groningen but they could not find the equaliser.

Feyenoord are sixth and still in the race for the Champions League play-off berths after a 3-1 win at home to FC Utrecht.

Goals from Luigi Bruins (34), Denny Landzaat and Nuri Sahin (66) had the hosts comfortably in charge before Robin Nelisse pulled one back for the visitors with 16 minutes remaining.

In Sunday's other game, AZ Alkmaar claimed a 3-2 win at VVV Venlo which leaves the second-bottom hosts three points from safety with just six left to play for.

Jason Oost put the hosts ahead in the third minute only for Ari to restore parity midway through the first half.

Nordin Amrabat put VVV in the ascendancy once again from the penalty spot after 64 minutes but substitute Mounir El Hamdaoui then notched twice in eight minutes to turn the match on its head.
