GOALKEEPERS

Choose 'em: Villarreal are a vague risk to do some real damage, having knocked six past Aalborg in the group stage, but Arsenal's Manuel Almunia (4m) is still a decent bet. The Spaniards' Diego Lopez (6.5m) is another solid play with Arsenal not at their most fluid away in Europe. And Victor Valdes (9m) of Barcelona faces a Bayern side beaten 5-1 by Wolfsburg at the weekend.

Lose 'em: Petr Cech (20m) is crazily expensive for any game, let alone a trip to Anfield. Manchester United are hardly firing on all cylinders but Porto's Helton (6.5m) is a risk, and so is Michael Rensing (7m) of Bayern Munich who travels to the Camp Nou to face Barcelona.

DEFENDERS

Choose 'em: If Rio Ferdinand misses out injured - and it looks like he will - then Jonny Evans (0.6m) is an absolute must-pick. If you're short of cash then you can do worse than Porto's Aly Cissokho (1.1m). Villarreal's Angel Lopez (4m) is another economical option and Fabio Aurelio (6m) of Liverpool will hardly break the bank either.

Lose 'em: It would be a typical Alex Ferguson trick to play Rio Ferdinand (20m), but he is not worth the risk. Arsenal's Kolo Toure (17m), Bayern's Philipp Lahm (17m) and Chelsea's John Terry (28m) are all overpriced considering they are on the road.

MIDFIELDERS

Choose 'em: Theo Walcott (5m) has been passed fit for Arsenal and looks like a brilliant bet away to Villarreal, who have the evergreen Robert Pires (5m) pulling the strings for them. Cristiano Ronaldo (35m) is a lot of money. A lot. But he looks the best of the top-range midfielders and you have to splurge your money somewhere, right? Under-appreciated wingers Florent Malouda (11m) and Albert Riera (10m) are also worth a punt.

Lose 'em: Andres Iniesta (36m) is a great player, but just not worth the cash. Barcelona have so many dangerous attackers that, even when they are on song, they share the points around. Likewise Cesc Fabregas (34m) looks fabulously overpriced. Ryan Giggs (8m) is not guaranteed a start as he played 90 minutes on Sunday although Paul Scholes (13m) is back.

STRIKERS

Choose 'em: Lionel Messi (45m) is the only player in the world capable of justifying such a whacking great fee, although Samuel Eto'o (20m) represents a more economical option. Villarreal's Giuseppe Rossi (11m) is a prolific finisher while Porto's Hulk (3.5m) is also a danger. Fernando Torres (30m) has already put Chelsea to the sword once this season - don't bet against him doing so again. And Manchester United's flavour of the month Federico Macheda (0.1m) might get a few minutes and is basically free.

Lose 'em: Didier Drogba (29m) is an injury doubt for Chelsea and expensive even if fit. Manchester United's Carlos Tevez (22m) will play but has struggled for goals of late. Arsenal striker Emmanuel Adebayor (20m) may struggle to get any change out of a well-drilled Villarreal back line, and Bayern's Miroslav Klose (15m) is another injury worry.
