Cheltenham chairman Paul Baker has revealed Bristol Rovers were forced to increase their offer to secure a groundshare deal at Whaddon Road.An agreement, in principle, was originally in place between the two clubs last summer, but Rovers started talks with Yeovil and Swindon in a bid to broker a better deal elsewhere.
Those moves were eventually scuppered and Rovers were forced to return to their original plan of moving to Cheltenham for the next two seasons.
"It is a really good deal for us, better than the one we agreed a year ago," Baker told the Bristol Evening Post.
"I think we felt a little bit mucked about by Rovers. We dug our heels in a bit harder this time around and we have now got an improved deal for the club."
Rovers will play their home games at Whaddon Road while their Memorial Stadium home undergoes a £30million-plus redevelopment.
