Calderwood holds no Champo fears

Nottingham Forest boss Colin Calderwood insists they have nothing to be afraid of when they join the Championship next season. The Reds' three-year absence from the second tier was ended on Saturday when they clinched the second automatic promotion spot in League One on a dramatic end to the campaign.

Calderwood's attention will now turn to preparing his squad for next season and he believes Bristol City's success in the Championship this year gives them cause for optimism.

"I don't think there is anything to be scared about when it comes to that ambition," he told the Nottingham Evening Post. "That is why, when I was given the job, it was the best job available in football that summer. It was nothing to be fearful of.

"If we have to make improvements all round at the club, we will do that. But just that singular fact drives you on and lifts you. What would it be to be a manager of a successful club again next season? It would take me to another level."

He added: "You can only look at previous history. The likes of Bristol City are doing particularly well in the Championship, Blackpool got well over 50 points as well. It is a really tough league. Can we be as strong defensively as we have been this season? I think that will be a really big factor because there are an awful lot of goals conceded in that league."
