Colchester midfielder Kem Izzet is urging his side to cut out the silly mistakes which caused them to be relegated from the Championship.Despite scoring a creditable 62 goals this season, the Us had the worst defensive record in the league having leaked 86.
As the club face up to life back in League One, Izzet is calling on them to tighten up at the back.
"We scored 62 goals and if you look at anyone else's record then I don't think many have gone down scoring that many," he told the club's official website.
"It goes to show we're dangerous going forward but defensively not good enough.
"We need to work on communicating better not just at the back but as a unit and that probably rectifies the mistakes we've been making."
Izzet insists United are under no illusions as to the task that faces them to get out of League One next season.
The Us finished bottom of the Championship and are now preparing once again for life in the third tier of English football.
Geraint Williams' side move into a new 10,000 seater stadium in the summer and will be one of the favourites for promotion, but Izzet is not taking anything for granted.
"First and foremost we need to be organised - we know that.
"It's a difficult league to get out of and we know that we're not just going to turn up and think we'll be promoted.
"It's going to take a lot of hard work, a lot of organisation and goals and we're all looking forward to the challenge next season."
