Stephen McPhail insists Darren Purse is still the "main man" at Cardiff even though he is expected to lead them out in the FA Cup final.The Republic of Ireland international has skippered the Bluebirds for much of the campaign with the performances of Roger Johnson and Glenn Loovens keeping club captain Purse on the bench and vice-captain Riccardo Scimeca only recently returning from injury.

McPhail is expected to be the only one of the trio named in Dave Jones' starting line-up to face Portsmouth and while he would be happy to hand the armband over should either be selected he is more than happy to be handed the responsibility on May 17.

"I'm proud to be Cardiff captain, but I'm only standing in for Pursey," he told the South Wales Echo. "He has been great with the lads all season and he is still the main man as far as I'm concerned.

"I must also say a word for Riccy, the club's vice-captain. Personally, it was special leading Cardiff out for the semi-final at Wembley - there wasn't a prouder man in the stadium - and I would love to do the same for the final."

Purse added: "I don't think I have too much chance of starting in the final. But I'll be involved and that's great. This is a great opportunity for all the lads and we know we can lift the trophy. Winning the FA Cup is what every kid dreams about. And I believe Cardiff are going to win the FA Cup this season."
