Charlton Athletic boss Alan Pardew has revealed that he may not be able to keep veteran Chris Powell at the club next season. The 38-year-old player/coach scored in what could have been his final game for the Addicks against Coventry on Sunday.
Despite wanting to keep Powell at The Valley, Pardew admits his budget for next season may dictate otherwise.
"In all honestly, I can't afford to keep him on," he told the club's official website. "I'd love to keep him in a coaching capacity, but I haven't really got any funds for that.
"I think Chris deserves a chance where perhaps he gets a player/coaching role. If he gets a job here, it would be lower down the levels and I think he deserves more than that.
"If I was a manager further down the leagues and looking for a coach who could double up as a player, then he would be the first on my list. I think he'll bring something to any team but coaching is where his future lies."
