Charlton Athletic veteran Chris Powell admits that he is still hopeful of agreeing a new contract with the Championship club. The 38-year-old made a late cameo appearance and scored in the 4-1 win over Coventry on Sunday in the last game before his current deal expires.
Addicks boss Alan Pardew has said that he may not have the funds to keep Powell at The Valley next season, but the former England defender is hoping something can be sorted out.
"I would like to stay and I don't really want to play anywhere else so with any luck something can be agreed soon," he told the South London Press.
"Ideally I would like to stay on as a coach, but with a playing contract so if there was an emergency I could fill in.
"It is down to the financial position of the club, though, not because I am asking for big money. I will sit down with the club as soon as possible and get things ironed out one way or another."
