Emmanuel Adebayor is "100% an Arsenal footballer" and has vowed to repay the club by firing them to glory in 2010 - but accepts the young Gunners failed to move forwards this season.
Following their Champions League lesson on Tuesday night at the hands of holders Manchester United, whose early double salvo at Emirates Stadium effectively killed off the semi-final tie inside 11 minutes, Arsene Wenger's men now have little other than pride left to play for as a campaign which had promised so much again failed to deliver.
Adebayor is one of several of Arsenal's key players who could not produce a big performance when it really mattered, the Gunners also seeing their FA Cup hopes extinguished at the semi-final stage with defeat to Chelsea at Wembley.
Nevertheless, the 6ft 3in Togo frontman - who last summer agreed a lucrative new deal to stay following interest from AC Milan - firmly believes both he and the club have a bright future together, but must look to learn the lessons of another frustrating end to the season.
"I think we have taken a step backwards - not only me, but the team," declared the 25-year-old. "We need some players. We had [Alex] Hleb gone to Barcelona, [Mathieu] Flamini gone to Milan.
"At the beginning of the season it was quite difficult, but we have showed we have passed that moment. The team are quite young and we have tried to make the best of everything. Now we have to fight for what we are going to achieve next season."

Quite sad to see u all dissing Wenger. He brought glory and praise to arsenal from every neutral out there. Man Utd, Barca and Arsenal play some of the best football in display.
Its not like Arsenal isnt doing well, it just so happened that Man Utd are so dominant now. Bear with Wenger, he'l bear you fruits adn if you keep ranting, i'm sure SAf might give the thought of him as a replacement.

Ade is a great striker, but the ball needs to be in the right end of the park for him to perform. I am very pleased that Ade wants to stay and hope he isn’t lured away.
The whole Arsenal Team was poor against ManU, but can none of you remember the first two thirds of last season when Arsenal played similar to how Barcelona are playing now? The current Arsenal side is good enough; confidence and form are still not recovered from last season’s injuries and injustice.
I genuinely believe Arsenal will produce trophy-winning football again next season.

Ade talks a lot about what the team will do. What we need is for Ade to do something special on the field. He just seems to stroll around, getting caught offside,fouling, not fighting for the ball and giving their defence an easy time. Look at Ronaldo and watch how he works. I am a Gunner through and through but you have got to look at other players and see the amount of work they put into the game. Ade, you are a waste of time for us and should have gone 12 months ago.
