Gudjon Thordarson has blasted Stockport for "spending money they do not have" following his Crewe side's relegation from League One.

Wed 06 May, 11:02 AM

The Alex were sent down to the fourth tier on Saturday following a disappointing campaign, but there is widespread anger at Gresty Road following Stockport's decision to go into administration just two days before the season ended.

The league duly imposed a 10-point penalty on the Hatters, yet as they had already accrued 60, they ended up escaping the drop by two points and Thordarson is angry with the timing of their decision to call in the administrators.

"It is unfair because it looks as though Stockport have been spending money they do not have," he told the Crewe Chronicle.

"Now they they get someone else to pay their debts off. They have gone through the season doing that and those clubs that kept their finances in control are the ones penalised at the end of it.

"Crewe is a good club and they do things the right way. They have always had the right approach and for Stockport to go into administration on the eve of the final game, knowing that the points deduction won't really affect them, is not right."

  1. Sorry but he is spot on. Stockport held on untill they had enough points to avoid the drop based on a 10 point reduction. Once they beat Crewe they went into administration. Stockport timed this so that the 10 points would not be deducted at the start of the new season. It is a loophole that needs to be removed as it is unfair on clubs that control their spending. Most clubs in the same position as Stockport would have done the same but this does not mean it's right.

  2. This icicle sucker knows very well that Stockport did not go into administration willingly and so does the yellow journalist who wrote this piece.
Sadly many teams have gone into administration in recent years, some more than once! The vast majority of teams are in debt throughout the league right now. Crewe make a profit then, do they? Leicester just won the division while losing millions but obviously it should be Crewe going up in their place. Ridiculous! Crewe had a @#$% season in a large part due to decisions by this sleaze who is attacking another club while they are in difficult straits just to divert the attention of his fans from the fact that HE is a large cause of their teams mediocrity.
I hope Alex fans are smarter than he gives them credit for and run him right out of town on the first goods train out of Crewe station.
