Tottenham can bank on a minimum of £20 million in extra income if they get through to the group stage of the Champions League, according to a leading football finance expert.
Television money and participation cash should see Spurs pocket that sum with even more income possible from performance bonuses if they get into the knockout rounds.
Simon Chadwick, professor of sports business at Coventry University and who has carried out financial research on the Champions League for tournament sponsors MasterCard, said suggestions of £60m were far-fetched.
Spurs' fourth spot in the Premier League guarantees them a place in the final qualifying round of the European competition but they need to get into the group stage to really cash in.
Chadwick told Press Association Sport: "Tottenham have got to get into the group phase, that's pay-day number one otherwise the income is negligible.
"If they get into the knock-out phase that's pay-day number two; if they get to the final that's the third pay-day. They should be guaranteed upwards of £20m but to suggest £60m is far-fetched."
In the current season, with all four English clubs losing in the quarter-finals, earnings in TV money and bonuses ranged from £19.5m for Liverpool up to £32.5m for Manchester United.
Clubs can also benefit from higher gate receipts and merchandise sales, success-related bonuses from sponsors and premium rate corporate hospitality.

as a gunner i welcome spurs, i can easily see them make them through group stage and probably quarters or semi's if they get a good draw, and some luck (which is what everyone needs) if they can all stay fit at the right time then they have the class they can go far...plus i like how it adds to the rivalry a bit :P
md...not enough experience? didn't leeds get to the semi finals with not enough experience?
Spurs will be knocked out of the qualifying round, just like everton did..
Not enough experience...
Mark, 5.20pm; thanks for asking after Paulo; unfortunately he is 'allegedly' under investigation regarding bribery of a tax official......hmmm. Class player though, one club and country. Don't get that much now, do you? But that's a different discussion!
I really hope Spurs do well, they've been great ever since Harry came back. Now their hard work has paid off, I will be watching with interest next season.
Appologies to Lee @29 wrong person meant Paul @ 21
@29 Lee, you are either seriously dense or just a wind up mate, what are you on about 'get your house in order'? we were one of only 4 or 5 clubs to post a profit this season and that is after spending 75 million, the club has a great chairman who's passionate about Spurs, he runs it like a business not like a new toy to lavish money on. We have a great squad of players with internationlas replacing internationals, clubs like Villa and Everton are the ones with no depth in their squads you moron. But I guess you're a sad and bitter gooner, you've won f***all again and are slowly losing ground and you can feel the yids breathing down your necks and you don't like it do you ha ha ha get used to it muppet.
why the old school badge?! are eurosport and yahoo really that out of touch that they don't know there is a new badge? In fact it's not even that new!
I think that it's great what Spurs have done this season. A lot of footie fans will be pleased that the big four stranglehold has been removed (sorry Lfc). It gives encouragement to all the clubs that could make next season even more exciting. just look what Fulham have done. Well done Tottenham.
lots of jealous people out there i suspect arsenal fans some of them!their on a downward stage unless they change things.but we are not. bring it on!only good things to come.good financial position, good manager, good team good and very loyal supporters, like man city`s.not turncoats chasing trophys, just proper football supporters.
So many of these @#$% Heads are writing us off before even a Ball is Kicked, Shows How Sad and Disabled they are..Come on You Spurs'
Honestly thatn Dip Stick on No 29, he must hate us that bad he can't look over it to see out of all the prem clubs the spurs are in a great financial situation, and thats because we have a great chairman.. He's either a Sasd City Fan who committed suicide straight after writing that @#$%,or he's a frightened gooner f**k.. looking over his shoulder at whats coming very very soon.. who ever, he's a @#$%
I hope spurs do well in the CL but I think you'll struggle to get out of the group stages. The worst teams in the CL are still better than 90% of whats in the europa league and spurs ain't exactly set the word on fire there...
''''in all seriousness. spurs fan just wake up smell the beans, you will be in 3 years where portsmouth are now. unless you get your house in order. you have nothing in terms of squad players you have no backers and you will have no harry when the cops come quizzing''' Paul you daft mug hahahaa listen to you how will be we be where portsmouth are, you really are thick!
As a Man City fan i say good luck to spurs in the champions league, good to see new blood, and at least we have the europa league.
Paul #19,20, 21 you are clearly a racist bnp voting (if your'e old enough to vote) scumbag pratt & a wind-up merchant who knows naff all about football or about Spurs. This Club is run at a profit, it does not spend more than it earns it doesn't need a rich benefactor to pump money in as it has no debt. We are not a selling team & have no need to unload to make ends meet, Carrick & Berbaflop were sold because they wanted to go & good riddance to both. You should wish your club was run like ours. We have no squad players? Clearly you don't know the team either & as far as I am aware the Law system in this country is such that you are innocent until proven guilty & all 'arry has is accusations. Idiot. BTW Mrs Maldini, how's Paulo?
im a west-ham fan but have to say harry you done well ,good luck in the cl and its nice to see someone else insteed of the so called big 4 there
I don't really care how good or bad Spurs do in CL; I am a Spurs shareholder, but don't care how much the shares are worth. I don't care how much money CL will bring to the club; what I do care about is the fact that we did qualify for CL (considering where we were 18 months ago), and I care that we keep players like Dawson, King, Lennon, Huddlestone, Modric, Defoe, Crouch, and Bale. That is more important to me than anything else, because I have so enjoyed watching them this season, and would like it to continue. Also, hope Harry stays of course!
hfc or thfc
sad to say, i think that Spurs will struggle next year, as they need a bigger squad to fight in a bigger league. if they end up selling the players the press say will go, they may find it hard - like liverpool have this season!
