West Brom boss Tony Mowbray is reportedly ready to test Rangers' resolve with a £4 million summer bid for midfield lynchpin Kevin Thomson, while Zoltan Gera could be on his way out of the club.
The 23-year-old played under Mowbray during the Albion boss's stint in charge of Hibernian, who sold Thomson to the Ibrox giants for £2 million.
The Baggies were linked with a move for the midfielder before he plumped for a move to the Gers - but Mowbray is ready to reignite his interest after steering Albion into the Premier League, according to the Express & Star.
Thomson was a first-team regular under Walter Smith last season, making 25 SPL appearances and 11 starts in their run to the UEFA Cup final.
But Mowbray feels he would be the perfect midfield partner for Albion skipper Jonathan Greening, as well as giving the Baggies some bite in the middle of the park.
Gers chief Smith is ironically believed to be pondering a bid for Greening, but Albion are more likely to lodge just a straight-cash offer for Thomson.
Meanwhile, Gera's agent expects the Hungarian playmaker to leave The Hawthorns after receiving lucrative offers from other clubs.
Fulham are believed to be leading the chase for Gera, who will be out of contract at the end of this month.
Premier League rivals Middlesbrough, Portsmouth, Everton, Bolton and Wigan have also been linked with the 29-year-old.
West Brom have made Gera a final contract offer to extend his stay at the club, but the player's agent Vladan Filipovic has revealed that the midfielder is set to turn down the deal.
Filipovic insists the player will make a decision on his future in the next few days.
"There are two or three clubs interested in Zoltan and he has received offers from some," Filipovic told Sky Sports. "West Brom have made him a final offer and in my opinion he will leave as he has better offers from other clubs. Zoltan will make a decision on who he will join in the next few days."

RIP Gera. You @#$%, going to Fulham. Lets see where they finish next season.
why would Kevin Thomson leave one of the best clubs in europe for a team like West Brom? They arent even one of the best clubs in the midlands, they will probably be back oin the championship again next year! dream on! Even Sebo is too good a player for west brom Ha! martyn rfc#1
Tony Mowbrey is right it should not be about money he is not a team player let Gera go and flop somewhere else, it did it for me last season when we had 10 games to go and he said he would leave if we did not make the pemiership what a great message to his team-mates who were busting their arse, i hope nobody picks him up and we then should not renew his contract
Loving it Sleek - be off with you lol
Too bloody right - he's only on the big stage because of the way the Mowbs Baggies play their football. He'll just be another misfit elsewhere, like Koumas and Kamara
Loyalty obviously does not mean anything to Zoltan, so I say be off with you, no doubt the Gaffer will find someone better.
