MADRID (AFP) - World number one Rafael Nadal could miss Wimbledon because of a knee injury, Spanish sports newspaper 'Marca' reported on Saturday.
Toni Nadal, the reigning Wimbledon champion's uncle and coach, said the 23-year-old had a damaged right knee and was doubtful for the Grand Slam which starts on June 22, the paper said.
"We have taken him out of the Queen's tournament (June 8-14) and will do everything possible to get him there, but this is subject to medical tests," Toni Nadal said.
"There is something wrong with his knee but right now we are uncertain what the problem is," he added.
Alarm bells rang among the player's entourage in April's Miami tournament when the four-times French Open winner Nadal complained of a severe pain in his right knee.
He reported the same problem after Swede Robin Soderling knocked him out of the French Open at Roland Garros this week.
"Rafa's body has simply said: enough!" the paper said.
The latest injury scare is not connected with the persistent tendonitis suffered by the player.
Nadal is currently resting at his home town of Manacor on the island of Mallorca and will undergo detailed medical tests from Monday.

Oh don't be so silly football4life, ( great name for a tennis fan!)
If your serious about your fitness whatever the problem it would make perfect sense to miss Wimbledon and focus on the U.S Open. I personally would be sorry if that happened but he has to protect his body. Knees especially. Oh and by the way I am not an idiot. Its common sense.

If Rafa misses Wimbledon that will make Andy Murray the second seed and give him a great chance of reaching the final, then anything can happen.
rafa take a good rest for the next tournament tcr
Damnn.....Federer will be pleased hearing this....Wimledon almost in the pocket!!!!!
Come on Rafa....take a long break, let the Grass tournaments pass and focus for the US open....
The match against Soderling was terrible....seeing him play like that, something physical had to be wrong!!!
I wish you the very best and one hell of a comeback!!!
If he is a doubt to Wimbledon, I reckon he might go there with a weakness, as he will be recovering from the pain. When he gets dumped out again, that will only add to more disappointment for his fans! However, I wish him a speedy recovery and I hope he gets back to his best, because we need the best to compete. In the meantime, let him rest and rethink the way he plays, which to me so physical and not what it should be. Let him slow down a little and balance between the physical, mental, technical and entertainment! He has them all but not well-balanced. It's just my opinion. Anybody can see differently!
@no.10 ,, clearly your a Murray fan .. all i can say is your just like him so grow up!
Rafa will be back..
rafa has enough money now to buy a brand new skoda
vamos rafa
well looks like hes finished thats good news cause i dont like him he looks like a chipmomk lol good riddnes to spanish rubbish murray will be number 1 by october
coolworld you can change you name a hundred times but we all know that you are same old mentally retarded cow. so take your silly comments and show it up nadal's.
as far as nadal is concerned, hes running scared.
how long will the cocktail help you, the cracks have surfaced.
illgotten highs always take you to premature lows.
the end is near.
I do hope it's not too serious though I have worried that he plays too much tennis. His type of game which has a lot of defensive running and baseline play is very @#$% the body and on top of that he plays a lot of tournaments. Federer for example not only has a game less abusive to the body but has always played as few tournaments as he can get away with. I hope Nadal's team gets him sorted out with no worries and takes a more long term view and lets him play less.
and note to the ATP... something has got to be done about this ridicilous schedule... yes the players may be paid astronomical amounts of money but getting them injured for life because of excessive scheduling now with the added burden of fines for not showing up to specific tournaments is bad for the sport. the ones who last till the year end championships barely have 6-7 weeks off before the new season starts.
#5 (coolworld) WHAT???? if he is preparing for the US Open or not you don't miss a grandslam unless you got no choice. please don't embarrass yourself with another idiotic comment like that.
S h it,not fair.he gives his all and beat the best of the best to become It and doesn't even have time to enjoy it.I hope it's more a precaution than real, maybe he only wants the US Open this year,so he's preparing for it,to join FED the very same year in the All Grand Slams winner's club ?
