Premier League - West Brom: No Mowbray bid

Eurosport - Sat, 06 Jun 19:01:00 2009

West Brom remain adamant they have not been contacted by Celtic with regard to manager Tony Mowbray.

FOOTBALL 2007-2008 Championship - Tony Mowbray, West Brom manager - 0

A West Brom spokesman said: "I can confirm that we have received no approach from Celtic regarding Tony Mowbray."

Celtic are keen to appoint a quick successor to Gordon Strachan who resigned a fortnight ago after taking the club to three SPL titles.

And they would have to pay Albion compensation of around £1 million should the midlands club agree to release Mowbray and if the former Celtic player indicated he wanted to leave.

But West Brom have stressed all along they expect Mowbray, who has two years remaining of his contract, to be in charge next season.

The Bhoys were also understood to be interested in Swansea's Roberto Martinez who has since been approached by Wigan.

Owen Coyle has expressed his desire to stay with newly-promoted Burnley after steering them to promotion to the Barclays Premier League.

Motherwell's Mark McGhee, ex-Portsmouth manager Tony Adams and former Celtic players Roy Keane and Henrik Larsson have all been linked with the post.

Mowbray had asked his players to show loyalty at the end of the season and try to help Albion gain promotion back to the Premier League at the first attempt.

  8. BLACK / WURZ - I think this A.SMITH666 character is a "no-mark", simply trying to shitstir here! I've used these boards all season, and it's the FIRST TIME I've seen him around! If he can't come on here during the season to make comments and have semi-intellectual debate/banter, then it shows how much he must care about his wonderful team! WE ARE CELTIC SUPPORTERS.. FAITHFUL THROUGH AND THROUGH!! Hail, hail!!

  9. Just read on the BBC sport website that Gordon Smith says there's a possibility of BAZZA and BOABY DIPPER returning to the Scotland team.. NO WAY!! Are we really THAT desperate?? TIME FOR GORDON SMITH TO GO, I THINK!!

  10. Wurz, I would just like a response, right or wrong to hear his opinion. He obviously can't handle a half educated debate. Thats probably him rating me down and saying nothing. Brave!

  12. black47 - it's a thankless task trying to educate these 'people'. supporters of a club founded and blighted with bigitory and bigots. you can hear them salivating at the prospect of parading their vile & hatred while wearing their silly bowler hats and gloves. most are stuck in the 1690's - i wish they would go back there. hail! hail!

  14. Why is it that Rangers fans always comment on a celtic article if you have nothing decent to say they be quiet please i think you might find Parkhead and Ibrox is'nt always packed at the weekends people are realising the standard of football is poor and are being wise. You mention dark ages this makes me laugh is'nt it rangers who are in debt is'nt it Rangers who need to sell players to balance the debt? Its time you realise David murray is no good for Rangers! I know Celtic are'nt much better with finances seems we are scared to buy players always going for bargain buys which is risky and does'nt always work but i don't think we are in the dark ages i think you may find we will actually spend more than Rangers well heres hoping

  15. a.smith666, Pt22 - The song your lot sang made a mockery of the people who died or were forced to leave their homeland during the famine. A famine which didn't discriminate like you do, it killed or displaced 1.5 million people, Catholics AND Protestants alike. A famine that the British government of the time sat back, and allowed to happen. (This was admitted by the British Government of today and has been apologised for, confirming it as a fact) The badge Celtic wore was in rememberance of those dead. The same way Rangers display a poppy (and rightfully so) in rememberance of the dead who died in the wars. Do you you hear us disrespectfully spout of about those poppy's, which "have nothing to do with football"? NO. Have a bit of RESPECT. And it probably wouldn't hurt that small minded bigoted lump of grey matter between your ears to read a bit of History and learn what actually happened!

    From Black47, on Sat 6 Jun 7:48PM
  16. asmith - it would be nice if you could just make your point then instead of all the garbage about bigots and irish rubbish. The famine had nothing to do with Scottish football but it didn't stop Rangers or Hearts singing THAT song

From antoniobenetatos, on Sat 6 Jun 7:48PM

  19. I hardly think wearing an emblem remembering the famine victims and a mob singing 'the famine's over, why don't you go home' really compares. We are paying tribute to them.
