Italy moved up a gear in the second half against Northern Ireland as Pasquale Foggia and Sergio Pellissier added to Giuseppe Rossi's opener to complete a 3-0 win for Marcello Lippi's side.
Foggia scored a neat second goal in the 53rd minute before Giampaolo Pazzini had a penalty he had earned himself saved by Jonathan Tuffey.
The Northern Ireland goalkeeper had been replaced by Alan Mannus by the time Pellissier added a third just 10 minutes after he had entered the field, but Mannus prevented a tennis score with a string of fine saves.
