Women's World Cup - US sign off with Mexico victory
The US women's national side have finished their preparations for the World Cup finals in Germany with a 1-0 victory over Mexico.
Substitute Lauren Cheney scored the only goal of the game after 92 minutes to give the US a confidence boost in front of 5,852 supporters at Red Bull Arena in New Jersey.
The US dominated throughout but found Mexico goalkeeper Ceci Santiago to be in tremendous form, particularly when denying Carli Lloyd after 70 minutes with a reflex save.
Mexico also cleared two shots off the line but their resistance was finally broken in injury time when Cheney collected a pass from Abby Wambach and fired home.
The US have not won the World Cup since 1999 and begin their campaign in Dresden against Korea DPR on June 28. Colombia and Sweden complete Group C.
