Baggies boss refusing to panic buy

Sun 06 Jul, 11:15 AM

West Brom manager Tony Mowbray insists he will not panic buy in the search for quality Premier League players this summer. The Baggies boss has released duo Zoltan Gera and Martin Albrechtsen, who were both out of contract, but has spent nearly £10million on five new signings to bolster his newly-promoted side.

Luke Moore, Roman Bednar and Do-heon Kim have all made their loan deals permanent, while Graham Dorrans has completed his move from Livingston and Gianni Zuiverloon joined the Baggies for £3.2million - making him the club's most expensive defender.

Mowbray is in no rush to add more players, but has revealed there are some 'irons in the fire'.

"Nobody is hiding the fact that the squad is not deep enough at the moment," he told the club's website. "I am very sure in my mind that we have to get the right players in. If it takes 40-odd days, then you have got to be patient.

"We do have irons in the fire at the moment, as we have had for the last few weeks.

The Championship winners will return to pre-season training this week to gear up for their tough Premier League opener against Arsenal in six weeks' time.

Despite being one of the favourites to go straight back down, the Albion chief is remaining calm and happy to see how things will progress on the transfer front.

"We are trying to build a football club and you don't do that by grabbing anything that comes hoping that you get the right one.

"Let's not panic about it," he added.
