Taku stays sharp in kart.

Sun 06 Jul, 01:03 PM

Takuma Sato showed what the F1 world is missing as he entertained fans and journalists to a karting event in London.

He may have been out of a Formula One car since the Spanish Grand Prix in April, but Takuma Sato is keeping his hand in by entertaining his fans at the wheel of a kart.

The Japanese ace recently treated a mix of supporters and media to a special event on an indoor circuit in London, but showed that he had lost neither his ability - or his desire to win.

Choosing 230cc, 70mph karts, Taku challenged allcomers to a 40-minute 'Grand Prix', with fans from all over Europe invited to apply for a chance to race against their hero, but few stood a chance as the erstwhile Super Aguri pilot showed that none of his racing edge had been lost in the weeks since the team's demise.

The race saw a range of competence on display, with ex-karters, ex-racers and various enthusiastic amateurs lining up against Taku, all keen to say that they had diced with - even overtaken - the former F3 champion.

Sportingly, Taku would slow down from time to time to allow the rest of the field to keep him in sight but, unsurprisingly, he still came out on top, despite the various obstacles placed in his path by slower karts - and even an attempt to bribe the organisers in an effort to nobble him.
