Former Birmingham striker Mauro Zarate has joined Lazio on loan from Qatar club Al-Sadd.

Zarate spent much of last season on loan at St Andrews, scoring four goals, but was unable to save the club from relegation.

The 21-year-old Argentine forward had been linked to a host of Premier League clubs including Portsmouth.

But Zarate has chosen to join Lazio, with the Rome side having an option to make the move permanent.
