Former world number one Juan Carlos Ferrero has been called up to replace the injured David Ferrer in Spain's squad for this week's Davis Cup World Group quarter-final against Germany.
Champions Spain are already without world number two Rafael Nadal, who has tendinitis in his knees, and Ferrero joins Fernando Verdasco, Nicolas Almagro, Tommy Robredo and Feliciano Lopez in the squad for the July 10-12 tie on clay in Marbella.
Ferrer has a muscle strain in his left leg, the Spanish tennis federation said on their website (www.rfet.es).
