Ligue 1 - United favourites to bag Obertan

Eurosport - Mon, 06 Jul 18:47:00 2009

Bordeaux president Jean-Louis Triaud believes there is a "great possibility" Manchester United will sign Gabriel Obertan.

FOOTBALL 2008-2009 Bordeaux - Obertan - 0

The young winger is regarded as one of France's brightest prospects and Chelsea have been monitoring him since 2007. United, Inter Milan, AC Milan and Arsenal have all been linked with Obertan too and Triaud believes the Premier League champions will win the battle for the 20-year-old's signature.

"It's actually a great possibility," he told L'Equipe. "United want him and we would be delighted to see Gabriel develop in such a club. We will make it official when the moment comes."

Obertan, who spent the second half of last season on loan at Lorient, is a regular in the France Under-21 side and scored against England U21 in March.

He was awarded the Most Valuable Player award at last month's Toulon International Youth Tournament.

  1. I find it funny that utd fans are coming out saying how good this guy and even costa are when lets be honest you hadnt heard of them till they got linked, you havent seen them play and you basically looked them up on youtube to get a highlight video, which every player in the world has!

Im not saying he aint good but Ive never seen him or even heard of him before, just like almost all of you

  2. The kid is good not a new Ronaldo but he does remind me of a young Henry, he has a smooth change of pace that is not easy to spot and it helps him pass defenders like Henry did, I think he could develope into a top class player so he will fit into the Manchester squad for this year 1/3 quality players, 1/3 ready to retire and 1/3 that could make it given time

  3. I hope not, poor ball control, weak shot, a bit like Darren Fletcher trying to do Ronaldo tricks. Not enough talent to fill a Youtube video.

  9. That's ridiculous - United don't need Lahm whatsoever! United have one of the greatest attacking left backs in the world in Evra and have more than enough options for right back as well. Obertan is far from 6ft 6"! He's around the 6ft mark. He's a quality prospect and I dare say it, as good as Ronny was when he arrived at United. He can play either wing, is very quick, has plenty of tricks up his sleeve and, with him and Valencia arriving, would afford United to be able to go back to a 4-4-2, with Rooney playing in the hole where he belongs. A talented playmaker in the center who can score would also be what United need. Even though Anderson is a fans favourite, he cannot shoot to save his life, even if he does have everything else. Bring in Douglas Costa, he looks fantastic... and he can take a sweet freekick too!
