Australian MotoGP rider Casey Stoner will undergo a series of medical tests in the United States to try and determine the cause of a mystery illness that has left him feeling fatigued.
Stoner has been suffering from the problem for the last month and is now seeking medical help after feeling dizzy at the end of Sunday's US MotoGP in California.
"I didn't feel as bad at the end of the race as I have done in the last two, but I'm still not right," he said.
"I found it really difficult to keep my concentration over the last few laps and I was in a bit of a daze by the end."
The 23-year-old Stoner said he was also experiencing recurring problems with his left wrist, which he broke in 2003 but needed additional surgery last year because it never healed properly.
"My left arm was feeling really tired by the end because of the fact there are so many left-handers here and my left wrist still doesn't have the full range of movement after my operation in the winter," he said.
"Now we'll focus on trying to find out the root of the problem because racing in this condition is not much fun."
Stoner won the world championship on a Ducati in 2007 and was second to Valentino Rossi last year but is currently in third place this season after missing out on the podium at the US MotoGP.
"I can't be happy with fourth place, even though I know that we have performed some damage limitation in terms of the overall standings," he said. "It's a weekend to forget."

buy him a soother
Im not a Stoner fan but i have great respect for him. He is also greatly respected by his rivals. Every rider has a bad patch that they have to go through for various reasons, Rossi in 2006 (tax issues, to many distractions)??, Lorenzo 2008 (new to the class, to many crashes, injuries)- Pedrosa and Stoner 2009!! (fitness, crashes and fatigue) It it also clear that he is suffering not just physically but mentally and needs to rest or find the solution to the problem fairly quickly as the cracks are starting to show. He and Ducati may need to make the decision to rest him for 2-3 races or until he is fully fit and forget about this year. He is a great talent married to a bike that he is the master of. Im a Rossi fan and like the GOAT himself I love the races to be competive with everybody fully fit so no excuses can be thrown in when one man emerges victorious. Rossi has proven time and time again that he can beat any rider when they are at their best and I want him to continue that legacy. Everybody that is interested in Motogp needs a fit and healthy Stoner!!
isnt it ironic thaat only "the doctor " can help stoner :D
Just watched an old documentary on Sky about Barrie Sheene,in the late seventies he had much the same symptoms, does this only effect motorcyclists?
Again our Mr.Toseland his doing his best to get a ride in WSB next year his antics on at the states convince me that is what he is after! sorry people but young james is a real nice guy but he is not cut out for Motogp just not good enough ,never win a race while he has a hole in his backside, should have gone to SPECSAVERS and stayed at thw top of WSB,plays some mean music tho!
In some I feel sorry for Stoner I agree with rest of you but still say that his problem is self inflicted its all in his mind he"s got the pace to run well but keeps getting beat ,after his run away champ year he has done nothing and he is making himself ill,he should do what button does go and give his missus "one" and get it out of his system ! and the aussies call us "whingin poms" Irest my case.Come on VALE make it nine.
Why do people presume that Stoner is just moaning and whingeing that he is ill? For gods sake look at his lap times and regressions in each race. He is clearly 'hitting the wall' in terms of fatigue after 10 laps of each race!! He also appears 'knackered' during FP and Qualifying hence him losing it at Laguna and taking a bad fall!!! Then the injury that has 'plagued' him since 2003 and restricted movement in his left wrist, not an excuse more a fact!! Now I personally don't like him, Pedrosa (who I hate and have no rational reason why) or Lorenzo (just couldn't stand the little twirp for selling his soul and sucked his lollipops for too long for a grown man) but have to applaud what they all did at Laguna. After all Pedrosa has been recovering for ages with the injuries he suffered last year and then again in pre-season with not enough recovery time from surgery this year!!! Then Stoner and the mystery illness (which sounds more and more like ME or Chronic Fatigue Syndrome) and finally Lorenzo with a fracture in his foot and a buggered shoulder!!! I love Rossi, fast becoming the best ever if not already, yet he had to fight off his clearly injured team-mate, a clearly ill Stoner and a recovering (but still injured) Pedrosa!!! He didn't look the doctor on track this weekend and the 'sicknotes' all gave him a bloody hard race!!! Hopefully they'll all recover/get well quickly and we'll have some amazing racing and then see Rossi really have to fight it out and prove that fit or not, they are just not at his level or maybe they'll prove they are the coming men and that Rossi will not have it all his own way! Either way, let's have some great racing from some true gladiators!!!!
nori haga rode with cracked vertibrae, you didn`t hear him whinging, stoner if you can`t stand the heat of losing a race you should retire and get out of the kitchen and give someone else who deserves the chance to race.
Just stop whinging Casey and get on with it! You just finished 4th on a MotoGp bike at a hard track you're hardly ill otherwise you wouldn't be at that level/pace. If you're gonna be miserable because you have some tough competetion you may as well retire!
@ 38. pikey4646
You are probably the only Rossi fan with a true sports attitude and brains around here. Respect!
As for the others... I cannot understand why explaining the situation and difficulties of a race equals to whining!!! It's not the bike, it's not the tires, it's not "bad weather" or "bad luck"... it's just him. Stoner is ill, anyone can see it, and this is exactly what he says. Period! And he wants to get over with it so that he can enjoy racing again.
Get well soon Stoner! I am sure that -despite his puppet fans' deliriums- even Rossi himself wouldn't like to win another title so easily!!!
Stoner is a miserable bastid....The only rider who totally ignored all the fans at Laguna last weekend, walked past them all with his head down despite kids requesting autographs. every other rider stopped and did the autograph and photograph thing.
Miserable Aussie @#$%! Full of excuses and moaning all the time, just face it you ain't cut out to be at the top.
I think he is pregnant
ALAN AND AND CHRIS HAVE EXCELLENT POINTS! PERHAPS THEY SHOULD WEAR HATS SO NO ONE WILL NOTICE!
Get well soon Casey, the championship needs you in good health, along with a pedrosa in good form. I may not be a big fan of Stoner's, but it doesnt go so far as to wish him badly. And re; Toseland, there are riders in MotoGP who have been there FOREVER and arent really that much better, i hope he keeps his ride next year.
he has got cantwinsospitmydummyitis!

Mental stress can mess your body around something bad, so maybe stoner should have a rest! And if he is feeling that bad then he should not race as he is a danger to other racers. The races are in no way boring! You must be watching something on another channel! They are all very very talented (when healthy) and Rossi is just honestly brilliant and anybody that thinks different are not watching him closely.
at last we know why James Toseland is doing so badly the BUGGARS BLind !!!!
Good and easy points up for grabs and he ignores the penalty sign on his pitboard
or is it that he is just so fed up he thought sod IT!
I just am so dissapointed with James this season the sooner he is out of his misery and back on WSB the better for him and all of us.
AS for Casey give the poor sod a break you can see how ill he has been
winge, winge, winge, winge, winge, winge, moan, winge, winge, winge, moan, winge, winge, winge, moan, winge, winge, winge, winge, winge, winge, moan, winge, winge, winge, winge, winge, winge, moan, winge, winge, winge, winge, winge, winge, winge, moan, winge, winge, winge, winge....!!!!!!
stop making excuses Mr Moaner, just race, you will get more respect from the fans..........!!!
Come on chaps, let's have a bit less of the personal insults please - we're Moto GP fans not football fans! Some of these threads start out really interesting but seem to quickly degenerate into name-calling and personal abuse. We've all got our favourites so let's just concentrate on the racing please!!
