Transfers - Your View: Best league in the world?

Cristiano Ronaldo has said that La Liga has now overtaken the Premier League as the best league in the world.

"Both leagues are going to be very good, but I think that with Florentino Perez's signings the Spanish league is superior to the English," Ronaldo told Marca.

Last season there were three English clubs in the semi-finals of the Champions League but it was Barcelona that won the competition.

With the likes of Ronaldo, Kaka (pictured) and Karim Benzema joining the party does Liga now boost the finest collection of talent in the world?

Or is there enough strength in depth in the Spanish league to justify those claims?

What about the Italian, German, French and Russians leagues - where do they rank in the pecking order?

  6. In order to answer yourself that question you have to­ answer what is the criteria for the best league in the­ world.
    The EPL has the best top 4 teams in the world,­ but since they are the only team who play in the­ champions league there is really no chance for the rest­ of the league. Just ask yourselves when was the last­ time any other than those 4 teams did something in­ Europe? I'll tell you that - it was Middlesbrough -­ lost the final of UEFA Cup 4:0 to guess who Seville.­ Then see the points of the relegated teams in Spain -­ Betis has enough points for 10th place in England. So­ there is your answer - 4 teams doesn't make a­ league - Only matches between the top 4 teams + some­ derbies are unpredictable in England while in Spain­ Matches between Barcelona, Real, Atletico Madrid,­ Villarreal, Valencia, Seville are always unpredictable,­ not to mention the average goals per game in Spain. So­ deal with it the EPL is overhyped just like Andy­ Murray.

  7. Premier League still the best because A. The football­ is way more entertaining and passionate, and B. Our­ second Tier league "The Championship" is WAY­ better than the Spanish second tier league so better­ teams get promoted so there is such a fascination with­ both ends of the Premier league...

  12. The best league in the world is still the EPL. La Liga­ might have some extremely good individuals now such as­ Kaka, Ronaldo, Messi, Villa, Silva etc. but that­ doesn't mean it makes the league as a whole better.­ What makes a league good is the competitiveness and its­ ability to entertain. Look at the past two seasons in­ England. Arsenal and Liverpool lead till Jan-Feb and­ then Man Utd slowly close the gap and end up the season­ as winners. Chelsea also threaten and almost take the­ title. In Spain, you can basically guarantee that the­ league would be won by Real or Barca and usually the­ other 4 going to Europe are Atletico, Vilarreal,­ Valencia, and Sevilla. Its too predictable.­ Ronaldo's claim that La Liga is better cuz Real has­ bought some great players doesn't mean the team­ will play well together. They all will have big egos­ and want to show their own talent where as in England­ the teams tend to play as a team and not as an­ individual. The EPL also plays at an extremely fast­ pace which makes football a joy to watch. None of the­ results are guaranteed. United can lose to Wolves,­ Chelsea can be thrashed by Boro etc. Thus, there's­ a value of unpredictability and extremely good team­ play along with a lot individual skill that makes the­ EPL better.

  13. When the there is a spanish team in every champions­ league final for 5/6 years (unsure)running. Then i will­ admit La liga is better. Don't forget there are­ only 2 world class teams in spain. Where as there are 4­ in england. Barcelona shouldn't of won the champs­ league last year anyway. They should of lost in the­ semi finals to Chelsea and got away with murder.

    Well the Spanish League has been the best league in the­ world for sometime now in terms of exhibiting brilliant­ football and sublime skills but the English Premiership­ stands out to the global audience as the prime language­ spoken and understood on all continents is­ but....English...;)
