Coyne targets promotion

Mon 06 Jul, 10:37 AM

New Middlesbrough signing Danny Coyne is determined to play his part in a Coca-Cola Championship promotion push.

The 35-year-old Wales goalkeeper arrived on Teesside on a free transfer from Tranmere on Monday after signing a two-year deal which sees him replace the departed Ross Turnbull as the main challenger to Brad Jones.

"Leaving Tranmere was a hard decision, but joining Middlesbrough was a no-brainer for me," he told the club's official website. "I have played most of my career in this division, so I know it very well and I think we have got every chance of going up."

He added: "I came up and met the manager [Gareth Southgate] and goalkeeper coach Stephen Pears, saw the training facilities and made my mind up.

"Gareth has told me he wants us to win the Championship and get the club back in the Premier League where we belong."
