Driver should stay at Hearts - Laszlo

Mon 06 Jul, 06:28 PM

Hearts manager Csaba Laszlo believes Andrew Driver would benefit from one more season at Tynecastle as Burnley renewed their interest in the winger.

Burnley have reportedly opened talks with Hearts over the England Under-21 international, but are unlikely to meet the Clydesdale Bank Premier League club's £4million price tag.

Laszlo said: "Andrew Driver needs a little bit more time with us. I think next season, if he can play very well with us and stays injury-free, maybe we can talk about his future."

Driver has four years left on his contract and his appearance for Stuart Pearce's team in last month's UEFA Under-21 Championship finals has prompted Hearts to demand more money for the pacy youngster.

Burnley boss Owen Coyle, who broke the club's transfer record with the £3million purchase of Scotland striker Steven Fletcher last week, had a bid of around £750,000 rejected by Hearts last summer.

Coventry have previously had an offer turned down while Steve McClaren's Twente Enschede have also been linked with the 21-year-old.

Laszlo is keen to retain Driver as he prepares for their Europa League campaign and he believes staying in Edinburgh is in the player's best interests.

He added: "But this is a young player who improved a lot last season.

"We must care about our players. I think it's my job to care about the players. He listens to me.

"I think Andy will play for Heart of Midlothian next season."

  1. kirky dont worry about the money my disabled friend i can afford it take the offer, fletch was the most over rated player in the spl but he was still a class act .i dont excpect you to belive any thing but the man u-liverpol game i was at he played fact so re look in too that you keep mentioning 108 is that your masonic club or the number of years hibs aint won the cup if its the latter the yams seem to be the only ones bothered about it did you win a trouphy last season no we won the treble with the under 19s and the east of scotland against the yams for the 5th year on the trot onward and upward my friend and i think you are scared to take my bet by the way

  2. fletcher is great ,worth all the sweets in the shop mate, the spl has never seen a player of his superior quality, all us inferiour small clubs would be soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo blessed to have such a masterful player on our books
is this what you would like to hear from everyone on those forums mate, to beleave every single story or comment you make,
well sorry but some of us have our own oppinions and methods of tracing information so please credit some of us, we are not neanderthals or have brains the size of a pea.
this is my opinion sorry to have one.

  5. paulie, your rants about fletch are just comical mate, come to think about it most of your comments are kak mate, for example you have told us that danny gilbraith has played first team football at man utd, well mate instead of google try going to man utd's offical site like i did, then you would find out that he is a left sided winger who has pace and likes to play one on one with defences, he was signed from hearts when he was 16 and has never debuted for man utd. "FACTS" mate, try checkin out the stories before commentin. fletch "will" be a flop and make no impact down south, he will find the defences in th EPL are in a league of thier own. NOT LIKE ST MIRRAN, FALKIRK, ST JOHNSTON, KILLIE, WITH RESPECT TO THOSE CLUBS, my god KIRK BROADFOOT had fletch in his back pocket, what do you think the likes of REO FERDNAND and JOHN TERRY will make of him. now at the very least wee andy has enough pace to skin most players down there. think about it.

  6. Ahhh, the old classic fingers in the ears I'm not listening to you chat! All you say is Driver isn't in Fletchers class yet have not once backed it up with anything.

    From fraser_hogg, on Tue 7 Jul 5:05PM
  7. fraser my deluded friend driver is no where near fletches class yet he will get there but not with hearts he needs a season with a better side i e rangers celtic or down soth

From paul, on Tue 7 Jul 3:59PM
  8. Paul, are you still whittering that nonsense about Driver not being in Fletchers class!!? Are you following the Tony Mowbory "If you say it enough times it must be true" routine!?

    From fraser_hogg, on Tue 7 Jul 1:25PM
  9. pt5 what i said was he is better than driver driver couldnt even lace fletches boots and is being held to ransom by the yams and flech will be a hit you inbread waste o space

From paul, on Tue 7 Jul 11:38AM
  10. fletcher class ?? i must have missed something there , he will be lucky to hit double figures in any of his seasons down there , then we will c how good he is . class lol

From seanlourie, on Tue 7 Jul 7:30AM
  11. poor driver he is being held ransom at hearts even if he did want to go no one would pay £4M kirky you are a joke mate fletch was well worth the £3.8m he went for .driver maybe doesnt have fletches ego but at this point in time driver isnt in fletchers class. and that is a FACT

From paul, on Mon 6 Jul 11:16PM
  12. wee andy is well worth 4 million plus, if a mediocar player like steven fletcher can fetch 3 million then why not. anyway why would andy want to go else where to keep a bench warm when he gets his game and EXPERIANCE under csaba.

    From criagkirk551, on Mon 6 Jul 9:57PM
  13. driver doesnt actually want to leave tynecastle just yet. he has already said that numerous times. driver is getting better working with laszlo theres no doubt about it. anyway if a club comes in with a decent offer the club wont stand in his way. that bid needs to be over 4 million though i mean for a start driver is on a new contract which lasts another 4 years.

From dunster, on Mon 6 Jul 8:56PM
  14. csaba you really are a buttmuncher. let the lad do as he pleases. if he wants a move then dont stand in his way.
