Jim Gannon promised that Steve Jennings is the "first of many" new signings after the former Tranmere midfielder joined up with his Motherwell team-mates.
Jennings began pre-season training with the Steelmen on Monday after signing a one-year contract. The 24-year-old is ineligible for Motherwell's Europa League qualifier against Llanelli but he may be joined by more new arrivals if Well overturn their one-goal deficit in Wales.
"Stevie's done well at Tranmere - both he and his club had an excellent season last year and that obviously brought him to our attention," Gannon told www.motherwellfc.co.uk.
He added: "As soon as I saw his name on the available list I was right in there as there were a few big clubs in England sniffing about so I am delighted to have him here.
"He was an important part of their midfield three so he knows how to operate in a system that we will try to adopt going forward.
"I want us to be good defensively and he'll help protect our back four with the aim of keeping as many clean sheets as possible.
"He's a whole-hearted player; a good athlete who is strong in the tackle.
"We're a little thin at the moment and I'm still assessing the ability of what we currently have in the squad.
"I am looking to bring in at least five or six players, maybe more, so Steve is the first of many hopefully."
