Anthony Gerrard has warned Walsall to learn from their previous mistakes by striking a balance between youth and experience.

The 21-year-old defender, who sealed a £200,000 move to Cardiff last week, says his former club need to reinvest in experience to avoid a repeat of the relegation they suffered in 2005-06.

"We had a lot of young players the season we went down in 2006," he told the Express & Star.

"I'm not saying if you have young players you're guaranteed to go down but you need that blend of youth and experience."
