Blues complete Quincy loan swoop

Wed 06 Aug, 09:00 PM

Championship outfit Birmingham City have signed former Arsenal man Quincy Owusu-Abeyie from Spartak Moscow. The Ghana international moves to St Andrews on a £2million loan deal until January, which the Blues will have an option to extend until the summer.

And should the 22-year-old impress enough at Birmingham, Alex McLeish can push through a permanent transfer which will cost a further £4.6million.

Owusu-Abeyie began his career with Dutch giants Ajax, before moving to Arsenal in 2002.

However, after becoming increasingly frustrated by his lack of first-team opportunities at the Gunners he left for Moscow in the summer of 2006.

He was then loaned to Spanish outfit Celta Vigo a later, impressing during his time in the Primera Liga.

Owusu-Abeyie also played a prominent role for his country at the 2008 African Cup of Nations, helping Ghana to the semi-finals on home soil.

He is equally at home on the wing as he is through the middle and will help bolster McLeish's attacking options ahead of the new season.
