Grimsby boss Alan Buckley is keen to avoid putting any undue pressure on his new-look side as the countdown continues to the League Two season. The Mariners begin the new campaign with a home clash against Rochdale on Saturday before playing host to Tranmere in the Carling Cup first round.
Buckley has worked tirelessly over the summer to shore up his defence with the signings of Robbie Stockdale, Richard Hope, Matt Heywood, but remains wary of setting his players any targets.
"It must be remembered that for fans, boards, managers and players it's a really big time of expectancy," Buckley said.
"We're just the same as everybody else and want to be very successful. Everything now is geared to kick-off on Saturday and lets see what happens.
"I've had various promotions and three trips to Wembley over the years at this football club and been quite successful and not once at the beginning of any season have I said that we will do anything. We will do the best that we possibly can to be as successful as we possibly can."
