West Ham have parted company with Sweden midfielder Freddie Ljungberg after the player agreed to terminate his contract at Upton Park.Ljungberg made 25 starts for the Hammers after his £3million move from Arsenal last summer.
A statement on West Ham's website said Ljungberg is now deciding whether to retire or follow up interest from clubs in Asia and the USA.
The 31-year-old Swedish midfielder failed to make an impact at West Ham after an impressive nine-year spell with Arsenal, where he helped the Gunners win two Premier League titles and three FA Cups.
Ljungberg explained: "I gave my all at West Ham and enjoyed my time there but the decision is the best for the both of us. Now I will take my time to consider my football future."
Hammers chief executive Scott Duxbury said: "We respect Freddie Ljungberg's position and are pleased we could reach agreement and wish him all the best in the future.
"This deal is mutually acceptable to both parties."

Freddie was a great servant for us over the years he was on the books at the Arsenal. Sad to see him plagued with injuries and unable to command a first team place at middle of the table West Ham.
Good luck Fred.
Didn't Freddie say later on that the article about him bashing Wenger were false and he never said any of that stuff? He was a very good player for the Gunners. Unfortunately, he showed his age and was ineffective for West Ham. I hope he decides to go to the US. The MLS could use another "big name" for league exposure. Hey Fred, come to the New York Red Bulls.
And don't forget to take your complimentary copy of the home game with you when you leave.
This goes to prove that Wenger was right to have let Ljungberg go last season. the apparent bitterness expressed by Freddie in the aftermath of that action was rather uncalled for. I do however understand that some players find it difficult to realise in time that their playing days are over. Sambo, Ilorin, Nigeria
