Jonny Rowell scored the winning goal as a young Hartlepool reserve side came from behind to secure a 3-2 win at Billingham Town. The highly-rated midfielder, who is expected to be involved with the first team this season, drove home from 12 yards after good work from Martin Young.
Pools had fallen two goals behind before an own goal and deflected effort from Michael Mackay brought them level.
Reserve-team boss Ian Butterworth told the club's official website: "It's the first time I've seen a few of these lads play so it was a good exercise to have a look at them and see what they have to offer.
"Our reserves will be a very young side this season so they'll get their chance."
