Colchester striker Scott Vernon is confident his side can mount a genuine promotion push this season.The Us kick off in League One at Hartlepool on Saturday and Vernon, who this week scored their first-ever goal at the new Community Stadium in the friendly defeat by Athletic Bilbao, knows they need to get off to a good start.

"Promotion is all we're thinking of," he told the Gazette.

"We want to be up there from the start this season. We believe we can go to Hartlepool and win and if we can get off to a good start, it will help us massively."
