Serie A - Real reach Huntelaar agreement

Eurosport - Thu, 06 Aug 17:36:00 2009

Milan have agreed a deal with Real Madrid to make Dutch striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar their first major signing of the close season.

FOOTBALL 2008-2009 La Liga Real Madrid Klaas-Jan Huntelaar - 0

Huntelaar, who has become surplus to requirements at Real following the Spanish club's massive spending spree, will join Milan on a four-year contract.

"The Dutch footballer will undergo medical checks tomorrow after which he will sign a contract that will bind him to the club until June 30, 2013," read a statement on the club website.

According to media reports, Milan have agreed to pay Real 15 million euros (£12.8m) for the forward, who only joined them in January, for an inital fee of 20 million euros, after a prolific stint at Ajax.

He is no longer needed at the Bernabeu following the arrival of players such as Karim Benzema, Cristiano Ronaldo and Kaka.

Huntelaar, who turns 26 next week, will be Milan's first major investment so far in the close season.

The club will be hoping his arrival will allay fan unrest about their inactivity on the transfer market after they sold Brazil playmaker Kaka to Real for around 68 million euros.

The announcement comes a day after Milan owner Silvio Berlusconi said funds would be found for a "great goalscorer" and that Chelsea target Andrea Pirlo was staying.

Until now, Milan's only significant reinforcements were American defender Oguchi Onyewu, a free signing from Standard Liege, and Brazilian Thiago Silva.

Silva moved from Fluminense in January but could not play the second half of last season because Milan already had their full quota of non-EU signings.

  1. To half a brain. I understand he was bought before perez, but the least you can do is give the guy a chance. Lassana Diarra was bought before perez as well and he really is a donkey. I think we should have got rid of him first.

  2. Kaka for Huntelaar and 44 million euros. Not bad.

Drenthe to somewhere where fans will allow him to play well. Great player, gives his all when he has support. Too bad he had to deal with so much racism in Spain.

  3. Raimo K, you should come out of closet more often. The guy was bought by the previous management in the previous season. The new ones had different ideas and wanted a team of their own. That is why he became a surplus.

  5. This deal makes no sense at all. Why the hell did Real sign him in the first place??? the guy has been there for 6 months, scored 8 goals, most of them as a substitute. And then real madrid sell him again. I am a madrid fan but this transfer makes us look like idiots.

  8. What again do we need.Real madrid is going to move foothball all over the world,so we dont need more players now,we got Alonso finally,so what we need right now is to offload some players to aviod surplus, cause every players need to be on the field, even cutting down some of there price tags.

  11. # 37.. Kaka didnt bow to money. If he wanted money he would have joined mancity but he joined Real madrid because he has always loved Real. His salary in Real madrid is far less than what he was offered by man city. Also Huntelaar didnt bow to money because its logical for someone to go for a team which has the higher percentage of winning trophies. You have to consider all these factor.

  12. agree with Dale A we need good wingers now ambrosini and gattuso just won't do (even though gattuso is a legend) we need proper wingers!!!!!!! then we will be able to challenge inter domestically and still be able to thrash them in europe

  14. I'm an Arsenal fan..NOW the dreaming fans who kept shouting Huntelaar this and Huntelaar that, Wenger bring Hunter in...You can now come back to earth, I knew AW and the Board won't sign him. To those who said Chamakh isn't as good and he sucks, well, he is more like a player we sign, so you need to come back to earth and hope Wenger signs him, we need depth and hey, he is welcome, he wants to come to Arsenal and he isn't that bad, at least not injury prone and a hard worker. I'd like Huntelaar in an Arsenal jersey, but i'm a realist, and I knew Chamakh had more chance of being in Arsenal than Huntelaar, plus the guy didn't even want to come to Arsenal. Get behind players who want to wear the Red and White and play in N5!

  15. What does this say to Fabiano who was available for 18 M? Guess he wasn't that important to Milan if he was rated only at 12 M by them. Something else needs to change, because the team as assembled just wasn't getting it done last year. A midfield of Ambrosini, Ronaldihno, Pirlo, Gattuso just doesn't excite me. Either Gattuso or Ambrosini has to be replaced. there's not enough creativity there to create the offense they need. Nesta, Zambrano, Onyewu, Jankulowski for defense is ok if Nesta is truly recovered. This doesn't have the feel of a champion though.

  16. Bobby, Bobby Bobby, u sound like ya mama pissed on u at birth and u call someone a muppet! So you do not like cold weather, so you do not like rain, so he must be paid over 150k pounds a week, big stars are leaving the prem (never knew Stevie is not a big star or Torres, or Berba, Terry, Lamps, Drogba, Anelka, etc) The prem is a biz more like the stock exchange, you make money you stay. Leeds went burst and other clubs replaced it so ge real. The rate at which spanish clubs have spent has not made them part of the pple going burst as it? If u wanna make a decent arguement, think of both sides will you? Dafty! One way mind thinking goose. Now I knw u do not watch nothing but empty stadia in serie A! By the way Inter will win the league again cos of the ageing stars in Milan cannot! Oh, watch Juve too. With the likes of Gio and Melo in the team, we can wait to see what ya daft, poverty striken club.

  18. Klaas Jan Huntelaar was very good for real madrid he scored 8 goals in 20 appearances and will do well at milan but higuain was better because he had a staggering 24 goals in 42 appearances not to mention 9 assists and he scored 4 times against malaga in a 4-3 win but now real madrid has to get rid of lassana diarra and royston drenthe...

  19. I was sure (praying and hoping) that Hunterlaar will be a Gunner come begining of the new upcoming season. Is Arsenal still interested in winning trophies or are we happy and content in just being a football academy for the likes of Barca, Real, Inter and other top clups in Europe??? I love Wenger but he's seriously losing the plot here. We have lost two major players and have sign none thus far..wtf!!
