Europa League - Liverpool to face Turkish test
PA Sport - Fri, 06 Aug 13:01:00 2010
Liverpool will play Turkish side Trabzonspor in a two-legged play-off to reach the Europa League group stage.
Roy Hodgson's side were paired with the Superlig outfit at the draw at UEFA's headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland.
The Reds will meet the club based in Trabzon, who have won the Turkish league six times, on August 19 and 26.
Manchester City will travel to Romania for the first leg of their play-off after being paired with Timisoara.
The Romanian minnows, established since 2002, finished fifth in their domestic league last season.
City, like Timisoara, also finished fifth last season, narrowly missing out on Champions League qualification.
Aston Villa were drawn against Austrian side Rapid Vienna.
The rivals met in the same round last season with Villa crashing out of the competition on away goals.
Vienna are Austria's most successful club with 32 championships.
Villa secured their place in the tournament with a sixth-placed finish last season.
Celtic were handed a tie against Utrecht after dropping down to European club football's second tier competition following their Champions League qualifying defeat by Braga.
Neil Lennon's side, who were seeded for the draw, will play the first game at home on August 19 before travelling to Holland a week later.
Motherwell will fancy their chances of making the group stages of the Europa League for the first time after being drawn to play Odense, with the first leg in Denmark.
Craig Brown's men have come through two qualifying rounds against Icelandic side Breidablik and Aalesund.
The Norwegian side were beaten 3-0 at Fir Park on Thursday as the home side cruised through to the play-offs with a 4-1 aggregate win.
Dundee United, who will make their first appearance in the tournament this season, were paired with AEK Athens.
The Scottish Cup holders were drawn at home for the first leg and will be looking to take a decent lead to Greece for the return game.
Welsh minnows TNS have a tricky-looking tie with CSKA Sofia to contend with.
The play-off is the final hurdle before qualifying for the group stage, with Friday's draw involving 74 clubs.

Who is this third twiddle calling himself Mugabe. There is a saying in Zimbabwe amongst the Ndebele Translated in english which says, Close your @#$% and open your mouth I think he needs to do that.
Nicholas: Thankyou, that would be great except I won't be at No 10.
All of a sudden I need to take a rest in a quiet place where no one goes.
My personal assistant has suggested the main stand at Arsenal Hotspurs.
I thought of Mr Browns think tank.
Ciao bay ciao
Mr Mugabe you will find him at 10 Downing Street, I'll pick you up from Gatwick.
president_mugabe_the_king: Thank you for your kind opinions. Here in the UK of Europe we don't necessarly take prisoners and all that (Meejah man: was that local enough?). Further to this Zimbabwe still has a lot of white people living in harmony with black people and vice versa. However I think it would be better if you should first visit our cousins in the US or perhaps France/Germany/Italy/Baffin Island and so on. Basically anywhere else. May the Queen and God bless you and your multiple diseases.

I cannot wait till sunday. Only 24 hours and twenty five minutes to go.
Has anybody ever seen a real dinosaur egg?
Was anybody at the Bray Wonderers Sligo Rovers match ? If not you missed 4 goals, the third goal was almost just offside!
Myself and my Cabinet would like to wish Liverpool United the best of luck in their forthcoming match against Trabzonspor in Turkey.
May I say that even if Liverpool is not in England I hope they do a good job and score very many tries. Many thanks to Manager Ray Hedgecut of StJohns St for his recent e-mail explaining how football works.
He also asked us to say "The Blues are the best toffees", we think. I am afraid that the email was very badly typed.
Pip! Pip! I mean eh eh eh.
reddevils_4life99 (all the posts): You seem like a Manchester Utd 'fan'. Why not seek treatment.
@all: This is not an easy game, Turkish teams are very passionate. I think we have the players and the strength, tough game.
