2.75pts New Zealand (-2) v England at 10/11 (Betfred). | Both sides make changes but Kiwis look stronger and in better form. |
England (+4) v New Zealand
Patriotic punters will be going for an England backlash here, expecting them to be stung into action following recent criticism.
They have new players in and that will provide fresh energy but can they see it out over the full 80 minutes? They haven't played for while now.
New Zealand have also made changes and I like their team, the players they have brought in have real attacking prowess.
This is a dress rehearsal for the semi-final and New Zealand will want to make this a tight, physical tussle.
England will be full of enthusiasm but I can't see them winning this - or making the most of the handicap. Expect the Kiwis to send out a warning ahead of the semi with a comfortable win.
Australia v PNG
This is an exciting game for Australia as they are giving a run-out to several players who haven't featured before. The likes of Terry Campese from Canberra, David Williams and Darius Boyd come into the three-quarters while, with the exception of Cameron Smith, a new pack of forwards also starts.
Jonathan Thurston will return in front of his home fans in Townsville and some of these Australian players will have their eyes on semi-final places.
Australia have shown so much skill and flair this tournament and that will continue here. Any start around 60 won't be enough for Papua New Guinea.
They were knocked around by New Zealand last week and while they will try hard, this will be an Australian try-fest in a carnival atmosphere.
I'd also be very surprised if the home side even conceded a try.
