Championship - Davies 'surprised' at Forest quality

PA Sport - Fri, 06 Nov 13:02:00 2009

Manager Billy Davies has revealed that he has been left surprised by the style and quality of football his Nottingham Forest team have produced so far this season.

FOOTBALL Nottingham Forest manager Billy Davies - 0

The Reds are currently on a seven-match unbeaten run, as Davies has led his side into the thick of the early-season Championship promotion race after a slow start to the season.

Speaking ahead of Forest's clash with Bristol City on Saturday, the former Preston and Derby boss admitted on the club's official website: "I think the performances are better than what I thought they would be.

"I expected to do the same as I had done with my previous clubs, which is to go in and make us hard to beat. And then in year two and year three the flowing football comes along and you start to get a pattern to your play and a bit of stability.

"But I've got to say I'm really surprised how quickly the players have gelled and the quality of football they are playing. That has come a lot sooner than I expected, I'm delighted it's here and I hope it continues."

  2. I hope that nottingham can win the promotion because they deserved and I want to see at them some great players and to prove himself that they are not the surprise team in premier league like burnley this year and hull last year.I want to see this players at nottingham:kuszcak(man utd),nyron nosworthy(sunderland),shittu(bolton),bale(tottenham),gl auber berti(free agent),vander meyde(free agent),ramsey(arsenal),taarabt(qpr),lucas(liverpool),ve la(arsenal),heskey(aston villa).this players can help so much nottingham that they can do something exciting at premier league.do this and good luck nottingham this year.I hope that we will be at premier league next year.this is not impossible because you saw what have done burnley and hull last year when they won promotion

  3. we have always had quality in the team especially the youngsters but i am afraid like any other time over the last 10 years we will sell to try and make a coupkle of quid bit short sightedness from the board they ought to have the balls and refuse the offers that will come in soon key man to our season i think is moussi quick and simple player just like keano

  4. On the plus side he has brought in some good players, who he has got playing as a team quicker than I (and apparently he) thought they would. Some very decent displays and if he picks a settled side and doesn't mess around with it we will do alright. On the minus side he talks BS and I still don't think he knows what he is doing. For example taking off our 2 best players against Cardiff nearly cost us a game we could and should have won. No subsequent explanation for that gaffe, only more contradictory words. So I am still undecided I am afraid.

  6. This man is a gibbering clown.
You are the manager for heaven's sake; you are supposed to know your team inside out, from top to bottom - NOTHING should surprise you!!!!!
Even i, a Toon boy, am not surprised by Forest's decent start to the season.
    ps
love the bit about trying to do what he's done with all his previous clubs, i.e. make them hard to beat - does that include that record-breaking Derby side!

  7. Yet another U turn. When will this bloke stop? First there's "it's a work in progress" then it's "we're not ready for the Premiership yet", now he's moving forward in anticipation by saying he's "surprised by the style and quality of the football they're playing".

It's going to be "a long son of a @#$%" but like the rest of us, I hope we get promoted to the Premiership this season. I've never liked Davies and still don't, but I have to admit that he's doing a good job for us so far this season.
