Northampton boss Ian Sampson received a boost with the news that defender Dean Beckwith has shaken off a groin strain and returned to training.

Beckwith has been a key man in a Cobblers' back line that has occasionally looked shaky and conceded 25 goals this season.

Beckwith's return is a boost after Northampton lost winger Ben Marshall this week, after he was recalled by parent club Stoke following a three-month loan spell at Sixfields.

Sampson will turn to Liam Davis to fill the gap after he returned from a lengthy injury break.

Davis broke a metatarsal in pre-season action, but returned as a late substitute at Torquay last weekend and could now be set for a regular first team spot.
