Bantams beaten at Meadow Lane

Two goals in 40 seconds either side of the interval from Karl Hawley and Johnnie Jackson eased Notts County's passage into the FA Cup second round as they claimed a 2-1 victory over Bradford.

Hawley's effort in the second minute of first-half injury time found the bottom corner after a deflection off goalkeeper Simon Eastwood, and County extended their lead 20 seconds after the restart when Jackson stroked home after a neat one-two with Hawley.

The Bantams, who lost 5-0 at Meadow Lane on the season's opening day, created a grandstand finale when substitute Michael Boulding poked in from close range, but despite Zesh Rehman and James Hanson's late headers they couldn't force a replay.

County could have been out of sight by half-time. Matt Ritchie forced Eastwood into a top-drawer save and Jackson's header was turned round the post before County scored twice in quick succession.

However, both goalkeepers were kept busy and Bradford had opportunities of their own to break the deadlock. Gareth Evans was put through on goal by Hanson, only to be denied by Russell Hoult, who also parried Scott Neilson's drive to safety after the lively winger had beaten three players.
