Ferguson happy with Valencia progress

Sir Alex Ferguson feels Antonio Valencia is finally starting to make his mark at Manchester United.

The Ecuador wide-man endured a slow start to life at Old Trafford following his £17million move from Wigan but is now making a major impact scoring three goals in the last six games for United.

"It is good to see him scoring," said Ferguson. "He did not show a scoring ability when he was at Wigan but when he came to us we talked about this and the fact if he is to progress his career, it was something he should work on."

The advice has proved to be accurate, with Ferguson delighted United seem to have unearthed another supply of goals as they look to cover Cristiano Ronaldo's exceptional return.

"He is showing evidence of progress now," said the United boss. "He has settled in and is emerging as a top performer.

"He has strength, good balance, speed and is a good crosser of the ball.

"But the main thing is that he is now playing with much more confidence.

"I am delighted with his steady improvement and hopefully he will prove to be another valuable source of goals as we move through the season."

  2. Graham P, what are you, PR? I couldn't care less what he does after scoring as long as he keeps doing it. Give a guy some time, he's clearly a quiet sort of a lad and for my liking, if he wants, he can even cry after

  3. 1st, Comments #1. I think your mesage is full of contradictions. You do not Ronaldo because is not a team player but you will always miss him? I always wanted to see Man U with Ronaldo and Rooney in it.

Valencia may not be Ronaldo for sure, but he does his best to get the ball to the oposing team's defence. If he can keep doing that, Rooney and Berba will do their job as well.

  6. I think United are jelling just nice now yes they have made a few mistakes and the defence as been a bit sloppy but when you loose a player like Ronaldo you do have to work hard as a team and communicate but the passing and the team work is getting better and Valencia is a great right winger he probably cant cross a ball like Beckham or dribble like Ronaldo but i think he's doing just fine.

  7. Would nice if he smiled once in a while, like when he scores. The fans would really connect with him then.
