Sunderland striker Kenwyne Jones has been fined by the club for his sending-off against West Ham.
The 25-year-old, who will start a three-match ban with Saturday's trip to Tottenham, was shown a straight red card for raising his hands to West Ham defender Herita Ilunga during last Saturday's 2-2 Barclays Premier League draw at the Stadium of Light.
"That's the disappointing thing of the sending-off, not just dealing with West Ham last week, we have got to go into the next three games without Kenwyne," he said. "That's why he has been punished. The club has punished him."
He added: "We have got a standard disciplinary procedure which comes into effect. It's quite simple, it's there in black and white for them.
"Kieran Richardson was exactly the same two weeks ago. If you get sent off for two yellow cards or mistimed tackles, that happens, or you are the last man and you may get handballed or something, that happens.
"But something silly - we have all done it, we have all been there, the heat of the moment and you react.
"He will be a miss because the strike-force for me has been the reason why we are going the way we are at the moment, because we are a threat at the top end of the pitch.
"Being without Kenwyne, we will have to adapt."

Brucie is right to fine Jones. Even though it was a nothing push... and the fact that it was a joke that Illunga went down like a 'glass-jaw-die' ... Jones is a professional. It's clear for all to see that teams like the bubble blowers are looking for soft cards and free kicks from us, as we're (Cana/Turner...Cattermole etc.) getting a reputation as a no-nonsense, hard tackling team. Jones knows that and knows the stakes - points / squad injuries etc and should have been smarter. With the Villa penalty and then the sending off, if he's not careful he's in danger of becoming a liability.
Paperboy, 5, read the 4th paragraph, there's a clue in the last part of the sentence; I think it was wor Brucie. He's got some neck hasn't he. Do you want us to have a word.
I dont think he should have been fined all it was, was a simple push which would hardly knock over a child but the game has got so dramatic and illunga should be ashamed
Tony you don't know what your talking about. Sunderland have a great first team, a half decent squad and are doing well. Looks like they are building a nice foundation, a couple of more decent players down the flanks and they'll be a force to be reckoned with
Who said? The report keeps banging on about 'He said...' and 'He added...' but makes the mistake of not naming this mythical individual. So I askagain WHO said? The man in the Moon? This report is very poorly constructed.
TK you don't have the right to criticise, especially snce your lot "Top of the league and cruising..." are playing mediocre teams in the Fizzy Drinks League.
Noprobs with the way our lot are playing. Top of the league and cruising, cant say the same about your lot - a decent start but the wheels have really come off now. This is where you find your players have no bottle. I predict an easy win for spurs by at least 3 goals
tony your obviously talking about your team!!
Personally I'd give the entire squad a fine of 6 months wages for crimes against football........
