Lewis undaunted by Toon trip

Fri, 06 Nov 15:11:26 2009

Goalkeeper Joe Lewis is certain his Peterborough side will not suffer from an attack of stage fright when then they take on Newcastle at St James' Park.

Posh travel north to face the Championship leaders on the back of three consecutive defeats that has left them second bottom in the Championship table. The match is set to be played in front of an estimated 40,000 plus attendance - the biggest ever league crowd any Peterborough side has faced in the club's history.

But the 22-year-old told the Peterborough Evening Telegraph: "There is no way that is going to happen - not a chance. There was a massive 30,000 plus crowd and not an empty seat to be seen at Derby on the opening day of the season."

He added: "We came through that test well and were really unlucky to lose the game. Newcastle will be under a lot more pressure than us on the day. There is a huge level of expectation up there, and everyone on the outside will see this fixture as a simple three points for Newcastle.

"But I am certain that won't be the case. Even if Newcastle do get the win, we certainly won't have made it easy for them. We will stick to the work ethic that has served us so well during two great seasons and we will continue to believe in ourselves to get out of this predicament."

  3. If we have ANY pretentions to being promoted then this Posh side should be put to the sword! YES, i expect them to up their game, every other side has thus far; but they are not 2nd bottom for nowt man. As for the hot air this 'keeper is blowing; EVERY home game this season has seen at least one of the opposition shouting the odds.
It's time we performed lads; let's stop this scratching around and let's see some style huh?

  4. It certainly will not be a walkover by any stretch of the imagination. Posh will come out fighting and we will have to guard against complacency but i still think we will win the match 2-0. Howay the lads. NUFC forever

  5. I'd be happy with three points however they come tomorrow...I cannot see them scoring against us with Enrique (easily the best player in the league) Colo, Simpson ans S.Taylor returning; but i do think they will get men behind the ball and make a game of it. I'd take a 1 - 0 now if offered; but i will go with a hard fought 2-0 victory with Carroll and Nolan grabbing the goals

  6. I think it will be a difficult match. On paper we should win without even turning up. But then again we always go into matches complacent when we are expected to win. I can see Peterborough giving us a great game to be honest, they wont be a walk over.
1 nil to the toon i think and another week on top, come on you magpies.
