Rising star Wilson expects the axe

Danny Wilson is not expecting to retain his place in the Rangers first team - despite stealing the show in Wednesday night's Champions League clash against Unirea Urziceni.

The 17-year-old made only his third senior appearance for the Scottish champions when he was pitched into the crucial encounter in Bucharest alongside David Weir at the heart of the defence, having impressed against both Dundee and Dundee United in the last 10 days.

"I'm just taking things as they come," said Wilson.

"I know there are more players in the squad who are capable of stepping back into the team.

"Just to have been given the nod for the couple of games I've played in so far has been excellent for me.

"I think I've done well so far but I need to keep trying as hard as I can when my chances come along. If I play I play and if I don't, I won't be too disheartened."

  7. He is displaying the correct attitude, we have had far too many "rising stars" who start to believe the hype and adopt an arrogant attitue to the detriment of their game. I've little doubt that he possesses a quiet inner belief, which is far more important than bombastic know it alls (Fleck/McCoist bust up)

  8. Ellis...he needs along run in the team...Rangers play too deep with Weir playing and they are inviting teams onto them every game.

  9. I agree lysdexic. Davie Weir has been great for the club but unfortunately his body can't keep up with his mind. I had more confidence with ball at Wilson's feet that at Weir's. Liked the way even at 17 he was telling other players to mark people. Captain in the making.

  10. Get rid of that attitude young fella; you've let no-one down, in fact you're the best bit of footballing talent in there at the minute, let the rest 'worry' about you!
