Championship - Cardiff could face administration

FOOTBALL Cardiff City Ninian Park - 0

Swiss-based finance firm Langston, the club's biggest creditors, are taking Cardiff to the High Court on Monday, December 10 over claims they are owed in excess of £30million, which Bluebirds officials insist is not repayable until 2016.

If the club fail to win the case, Ridsdale believes administration would threaten both the club's Championship status and the ownership rights to the new stadium.

Ridsdale said: "If we were to lose we would go straight into administration - it's a straightforward situation.

"The club's Championship status would be determined by the amount of points we collect come the end of the season, minus 10.

"In terms of the stadium, it would depend who buys the football club and whether they prove to be an acceptable partner for the council and whether they have got enough money to finish the stadium off, which would probably be about £20million."

The club were given the green light to go ahead with the construction of a new stadium along with a new athletics facility on the old Leckwith Athletic Stadium site after Cardiff City Council agreed to give the project 'unconditional' funding status in May.

However, should Ridsdale's worst fears be confirmed, the club would incur an immediate 10-point deduction and face the prospect of losing the 'unconditional' status granted by the local council.

But despite the high stakes, former Leeds chairman Ridsdale remains steadfast in his belief the club will win.

"I met with the board and our lawyers in London on Tuesday to discuss what the state of play will be on Monday," he added.

"I'm confident and I've always been confident."

The anonymity of the Langston group remains a frustrating hurdle for Ridsdale who remains none the wiser as to who is behind the company.

"I don't know who they (Langston) are so I can't sit down and negotiate with invisible people," Ridsdale said.

"We have dialogue with their lawyers, lawyer to lawyer, but we have at no stage had direct contact from Langston with ourselves since this began."
