Premier League - Coppell: I'm going nowhere

FOOTBALL 2007 Reading Steve Coppell - 0

Coppell said earlier this week that he would take a complete break from football "very shortly" but sought to clarify his remarks.

"I find that I did an article and we were just chatting towards the end and that's where 'I will take a break soon' came out," Coppell told Sky Sports.

"I was referring to the future not a specific time in future. I made the comment in reference to my longevity in the game is probably because in certain times I have had a break.

"That break has not been by design. In the past it has been because no one wanted me. Seven years ago I could not get a job so I took a year out and that was the best education I could have got.

"Sometime in the future that will happen again, that's for sure. But it's not next week, it's not next month. I am 100 per cent committed here not even a doubt."

Coppell is fantastically popular at the Madejski Stadium having established the Royals as a Premier League side during his four years in charge.

However, he has often spoken about the stress of football management, saying it is difficult to enjoy life in such a high-pressure environment.

"[Leaving Reading] might not be my decision," added Coppell. "If we are not winning games I will be removed.

"It is not an issue for me I am never frightened of that. It is one of the reasons why I have been surviving for so long, it is not a fear."
